Contest memories

Well the bands have gone and Timaru returns to normal. It was a great event and thank you all for coming.

Congratulations to Woolston Brass, A Grade Champions, Street March Champions and Band of The Year 2012.

Thank you BBANZ for bringing your event to Timaru. Watch out New Plymouth - we're a hard act to follow.

Special thanks go to Tim Kelly and www.brassbanned.com for the live streaming.  Awesome stuff.

We'll be posting some retrospectives on the lighter side of contesting over the coming days.  Share your story on our Facebook page

Live commentary

We're running live comments from the A Grade Own Choice today - and remember, these are not the comments that are going to count... but we hope you enjoy them all the same.

Don't forget the live streaming.

Check out our live comments from the A Grade Sacred Item and Test.

Our predictions after the Sacred Item and Test - well not naming names but the current champions may have opened the door to a hungry big city band looking to shore up a good result, a capital  performance with polish, a deep, southern interpretation, and some bloody colonials...

Day three update

Day Three and the bands are taking to the stages and the street.  Let's hope the weather holds.

The solo and ensembles gave us some fine performances, and the band events will give us many more.

A&B  are at the Theatre Royal, C at Mountainview High School.

And if you see someone in a high viz vest - say thank you. They are one of our volunteers.

To the musical directors, this one is for you:

Day two update

Day two in Timaru

If you're competing in the Open Eb bass - the programme is wrong - start time is 12.30pm not 13.30pm.  BBANZ have been working hard to make sure everyone affected is notified.

Great news - Simon Hocking tells us that Auckland Airport is clearing all major flights now but some bands will have their rehearsal schedules disrupted as players arrive late.  Not nice weather New Zealand!

Some great performances yesterday, and we're looking forward to more musical magic today as the open solos and remaining ensembles take place.

if you were at the Invitation Slow Melody last night, you might have felt a bit of a chill. We're assured the heating will be working fine for this evening.

Finally, make sure you have organised your formal photograph with our official photographer, Nick Anderson.

NEWSFLASH: We picked it -  John Lewis, winner Championship Cornet 2012.

Day one update

The day we've all been waiting for - the 132nd New Zealand Brass Band Nationals Championships began today.

It was a busy day with lots of nerves - and that was just the organisers!

Our Facebook page kept busy and once the IT gurus did their stuff we had updates going up on the website.

Good luck to everyone competing tonight.

The Timaru Team.
