Timaru

Welcome to Heartland Festival of Brass Timaru 2012.
We welcome players, families, sponsors, officials and supporters attending the 2012 New Zealand National Brass Band Championships.
This year, more than 1000 brass band lovers will meet for five days of intense competition and outstanding music making as they compete for the honour of being New Zealand’s finest.
The competition starts on Wednesday at the Aoraki Polytechnic as soloists young and old bravely step up in front of the judges.  The best of the best will be on show at the Mountainview High School  in the Invitation Slow Melody on Wednesday night, and again on Thursday night in the Open Champion of Champions.
On Friday, it’s the Parade of Bands in Stafford Street, before the bands take the stage for two days of intense competition in the grand atmosphere of the Theatre Royal, and the excellent auditorium at Mountainview High School.
And if that’s not enough, on Sunday afternoon it’s the Band of the Year concert at the Theatre Royal, where our very own Alpine Energy Timaru Brass will take on the invitation only field to delight audiences with special entertainment programmes.
If you follow the bands, then you’ll be in for a treat. If it’s your first nationals, we hope it will be an event to remember.
And for the first timers to a band contest, welcome to the wonderful world of community music at its best.
